Soon, I’ll be flying out of JFK airport to Colombia to meet my in-laws. I’m obviously both excited and terrified. But one of the things I’m looking forward to, aside from getting to know them, is that for three weeks I’ll have to speak entirely in Spanish. Sure, I could talk to my husband, but we both really want me to be fluent, so we’re going to try to avoid english at all costs. I’ll be taking classes every day, so that should help. Hopefully I won’t regret taking the classes, wishing I was spending time with the family instead.

In the time between now and our departure, I’ll be studying spanish and practicing. So, I’ll be chronicling that experience here, and writing about what I’m learning. It won’t be interested to native or advanced Spanish speakers I imagine, except for the bits that’ll be about Medellin.

Here we go!
